At Refurbit, we’re proud to announce that we’ve become one of the first signatory of the UK Government’s IT Reuse for Good Charter, a nationwide initiative aimed at tackling digital exclusion and reducing e-waste by promoting a reuse-first approach to old tech.
What Is the IT Reuse for Good Charter?
Backed by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), this charter brings together businesses, charities, and government to change how we manage unwanted IT equipment.
With 1.6 million people in the UK still offline, tablet, or smartphone—and 1.45 million tonnes of e-waste discarded each year—there’s never been a more urgent time to act.
The Charter encourages organisations to:
Donate refurbished devices to those in digital poverty
Securely wipe and professionally refurbish tech
Report on impact, helping demonstrate how reuse contributes to Net Zero goals and social good
Why It Matters to Us
Refurbit has long championed a circular, sustainable model: rescuing unwanted tech, refurbishing it, and putting it back into the hands of those who need it most. Signing this Charter reinforces our values and gives us a platform to do even more—alongside some fantastic partners like Deloitte, Vodafone, Currys, and the Good Things Foundation.
We’re already making a huge difference, every year:
Over 65 tonnes have been recycled and 90-95% of equipment is reused, not wasted.
- 12,000 devices donated to us
900 tonnes of CO₂ prevented through reuse.
Devices reaching schools, charities, libraries, and care homes across the UK
Public drop-off point in Hull now open—and expanding soon
What This Means If You Donate to Us
By choosing Refurbit as your reuse partner, you’re not just recyclin, you’re actively supporting a government-recognised, Charter-aligned programme that delivers measurable environmental and social benefits.
Whether you’re a business clearing out IT, a school upgrading devices, or just someone with a laptop gathering dust, your donation can:
Equip a student in need
Help someone get back into work
Reduce digital inequality in your community
Count toward national Net Zero and social impact targets
We take care of secure data wiping, refurbishment, redistribution, and impact reporting.
Join the Movement
If you’re a business, school, or organisation with tech to spare, let’s work together. Every device donated means another student learning, another parent applying for work, another person connected.
Let’s reuse for good. Because no one should be left behind in a digital society.
